July 6, 2010 Recent Collaberations etc...
A few months ago, Bobby provided vocals for Turzi, on a track called 'Baltimore'. It is on his album called 'B' and was just released as a single.
Bobby also features on a track on the debut Freebass album, 'It's A Beautiful Life', which features Mani and Peter Hook (New Order). I'm not sure on on which track
he is on. Bobby is also contributing to the new album by Tricky, which is due out in September.
Andrew Innes produced the new EP by Autokratz. It can be downloaded for free from the band's site.
June 21, 2010 The Silver Machine
Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie has unveiled a one-off collaboration covers band featuring members of the Sex Pistols and The Who.
Called Silver Machine, the band have been announced to perform a special covers show at LondonÕs 1234 festival in Shoreditch on July 24.
Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock, The Who and former Oasis sticksman Zak Starkey, plus Primal Scream guitarists Andrew Innes and Little Barrie's Barrie Cadogan will also take part.
The band are set to perform a collection of their favourite songs by band's including The Creation, The Flamin' Groovies, The Chocolate Watch Band, The Troggs and MC5.
"We're great and we can't wait," declared frontman Bobby Gillespie.
Festival director Sean McLusky added: "We did a show at the Whitechapel Gallery with S.C.U.M and a bunch of other artists, Bobby was playing and rocked 'Wild Thing' by The Troggs with Jamie Hince from The Kills, so I asked him if he would do more of the same at the festival, so now we haveÉ.The Silver Machine."

February 25, 2010 'Screamdelica' live redux
The Scream hagve announced a second 'Screamdelica' show, this one on Friday, November 26th. Andy Weatherall will be the DJ both nights. I think all tickets have sold out now.
'I put a spell on you'
Screaming Jay Hawkins's 'I put a spell on you' single , the Shane MacGowan and friends (see below) benefit for Haiti earthquake relief effort will be released on
Monday March 1st. The single is download only. Bobby features prominently on the song. Check out the video.
February 17, 2010 Scream to play 'Screamdelica' live
According to The Quietus,
The Scream are due to play 'Screamdelica'
live in it's entirety on November 27th of this year at the Olympia in London, in regonition of the 20th anniversary of 'Screamadelica' this year. Tickets go on sale February 26th.
"...their lineup for the night with a gospel choir, brass section plus the one-off return of singer Denise Johnson".
I suspect Robert (Throb) Young will not be rejoining for this one-off event.
This weeks NME includes an article about this momnumental event. Here is what he says, "a psychedelic night of discovery' and making it sound as big as possible so people go home crying. They know how much the album means to people but it won't be an attempt to recreate 1991. Some of the songs were only played once in the studio first time round so it's finding a way of doing them now. Nice to focus on the gentle side of it, the psychedelic side, seeing as for the past 10 years they've been a 'high energy rock n roll band'"
Could this mean a special 20th anniversary remastered version deluxe package of 'Screamadelica' will be
released this year? Could be..all the albums were recently reissued (apparently remastered) in Japan last year as double discs but 'Screamadelica' was suspiciously absent.
New Scream album in 2011
Bobby and Andrew Innes recently DJ'ed at a club in Belfast and talked with members of the forum, they said they had been working in David Holmes studio recently but the new album won't be out until 2011.
January 30, 2010 I Put a Spell On You UPDATE!
According to the Guardian newspaper,
Bobby, Shane MacGowan, Nick Cave and Johnny Depp are teaming up to do a cover of Screaming Jay Hawkins's 'I got a spell on you' for Haiti earthquake relief.
UPDATE: This will be released March 1st.
Mani Talks Manchester
Check out a recent interview with Mani from Clash magazine.
Hail Hail Rock n Roll
Check out a recent article by Bobby aboutChuck Berry from The Guardian.
January 21, 2010 Work begins on new album
According to Mani, the Scream are busy writing new material. It's unclear when this will see the light of day. Also, the supergroup of Mani,
Peter Hook (New Order) and Andy Rourke (The Smiths) should have their debut releases out later this year and also play a few select gigs.
See the NME article below.
Primal Scream bassist Mani has revealed that they have begun work on their next album.
The follow-up to 2008's 'Beautiful Future', the former Stone Roses man explained that they will be spending the rest of the year working on their new record.
"This year is a writing year and it's going well," Mani told NME.com. "We're trundling along. We've got some half ideas left over from the last album, so we'll bring them up and give them a kick around, we're into it."
Currently working on the finishing touches to the long-awaited Freebass album, with New Order's Peter Hook and former Smiths bassist Andy Rourke, Mani revealed how they were "99-percent done".
"We've got like one more week left and then we're going to draw a line under it," he explained. "You're never gonna be 100-percent happy with anything you do, I never am and I never will be, so it'll be nice to finish things off and then get out and start playing the tunes."
Already confirmed for Japan's Fuji Rock and Reading festival, the as-yet-of titled album, will be preceded by an EP 'When Two Worlds Collide' shortly.

January 12, 2010 Scream and Lee Perry collaberation
The Scream have teamed up with Adrian Sherwood and Lee Perry to cover Black Sabbath's 'Iron Man'. The track is now called 'Moneyman'
and featured Bob ranting over a crazy dub-style version of 'Iron Man'. You can listen to it
here.
Screamadelica cover featured on British stamp
They were issued earlier this week. You can purchase it in a variety of
different ways. Here is what Bob has to say about it
Primal Scream star Bobby Gillespie hails artist who behind iconic Screamadelica cover after stamp tribute
Jan 10 2010 Billy Sloan, Sunday Mail
PRIMAL Scream star Bobby Gillespie has paid tribute to the tragic artist behind the iconic sleeve for the Screamadelica album.
The 1991 classic cover is one of the albums featured on a new series of stamps launched last week.
The "psychedelic sunburst" design was created by Paul Cannell - the in-house artist at Creation Records - who died in 2005.
But Bobby said he would have been in stitches at getting a Royal seal of approval.
He said: "Paul was an anarchist. He would definitely have got the humour of the Queen's head now being on top of his work.
"But we're flattered the artwork for Screamadelica has been rewarded in this way."
But the band could have missed out on being immortalised as a stamp as ex-Creation Records boss Alan McGee revealed he rejected Bobby's original idea for the cover.
He said: "In July 1991, we had the album but no cover artwork.
"Bobby wanted it to be a picture of the band sitting with a sexy model. But I said: 'No one will buy it'.
"The poster for the single Higher Than The Sun featured the sunburst logo painted in yellow and blue. I thought it would look good as an album sleeve if we used different colours. Bobby changed it to red and that's how the sleeve was created.
"It's become the Primal Scream equivalent of The Rolling Stones' famous lips and tongue logo."
Music mogul McGee now owns 12 original Cannell paintings, including the artwork for the Primal Scream single, Don't Fight It, Feel It.
"It's hanging on the wall in my kitchen at home," he said.
"My former Creation partner Dick Green still owns the Higher Than The Sun painting."
Cannell's first successful record sleeve design was for The Manic Street Preachers' 1990 single, You Love Us.
He also painted covers for indie acts such as Shonen Knife, Flowered Up and The Telescopes.
The artist used ordinary household paint and car body filler in many of his works.
Talking of Screamadelica he said: "Bobby wouldn't play me the record, he just told me the title which I thought was cool.
"We spent ages sectioning out the painting and focusing on what he wanted from it. Bobby wanted jazz... abstract. He was very exact about getting it."
McGee - who also discovered Oasis, The Jesus And Mary Chain and Teenage Fanclub - has fond memories of the talented artist. He told me: "I gave Paul a space in the attic at the Creation offices in Westgate Street in London. He was hugely influenced by the US artists Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol but he became unique in his own way.
"In 1995, he also made a record Soulface - using the name Crawl - for Creation."
December 15, 2009 Scream to play 'Screamdelica' Live?
A forum member ran into Mani at one of the recent Spiritualzied shows and Mani told him that The Scream plan on playing 'Screamadelica' live next year.
A full tour is expected.
December 13, 2009 Bob appears on new 'Turzi' album 'B'
Bobby provides vocals on the track, 'Balitmore' which was released in October of this year.
The album was mixed by Max Hayes and Brendan Lynch, both who have worked with The Scream.
The backing track to Baltimore found its way to Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream) who agreed to sing vocals on the track, without knowing any information about Turzi at all. His characteristic vocal style merges perfectly with the driving psychedelic vibes of the song whilst fusing softly with rebellious Acid House undertones.

Other misc news
The Scream played a date in South America recently with only Andrew Innes on guitar.
March 27, 2009 Steven Van Zandt rips Bobby and the Scream
Primal Scream turned down an offer to tour America, according to Steven Van Zandt, the guitarist in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, because of the drug problems of "waste of space" Bobby Gillespie.
Van Zandt lashed out at Gillespie in an interview with the Daily Record, saying that Primal Scream "could be the biggest band in the world" if it weren't for their bad habits.
"I tried to get Primal Scream to come over to America several times," he said. "I thought their album before this last one was one of the greatest records in 10 years. I begged them to come over. I had a whole tour for them."
Van Zandt is a highly respected figure in American music, writing hit songs, performing with Springsteen, hosting radio shows and even playing Silvio Dante on The Sopranos TV show. But when it came to Primal Scream, he couldn't get anywhere. "Their agent talked me out of it," he said. "[The agent] said: 'They can't do 20 shows.' I'm like, 'Come on, man. We do 20 shows a month.'"
"Primal Scream could be the biggest band in the world. They are fantastic when they make rock records Ð once every 10 years. But they can't tour because of drug problems, or whatever. I don't have patience for it. I'm like, all right, you want to be a drug addict, go be a drug addict. Don't waste my time."

McGee writes about the Scream on his blog
McGee has written on his blog that The Scream have reinvented themselves and he compared each of their recent output to The Rolling Stones catalog. Here is an interesting quote.
"Bob's taken some critical beatings for his lyrics on Beautiful Future, but they were not justified. Gillespie's lyrics evoke a mood of psychedelic despair, political degeneration and celebration.

Over the course of 20 years and eight albums, Bobby Gillespie and his merry men have continually influenced and adapted to the musical mood of the times, proving as adept in choosing their collaborators as surviving a series of excesses, fallouts and label changes.
Now signed to B-Unique and with their distinctly trad predecessor Riot City Blues still ringing in our ears, can they still impress with album nine?
It starts promisingly, with album opener and title track Beautiful Future tapping into the band's love of idiot-savant, boogie rock with enough of a contemporary sheen to avoid clich.
Following track Can't Go Back also fails to disappoint, with echoes of 2000's Accelerator contained within its nuclear-powered grooves. Tracks three and four, Uptown and Glory Of Love, are carried by a streamlined, post-disco sheen courtesy of producer Paul Epworth, who helmed most of the album's sessions with Bjrn Yttling.
However, around this point the band noticeably slip into autopilot. If there ever was such a thing as a Primal Scream Title Generator, surely Suicide Bomb and Zombie Man would be among the first results to appear.
Similarly, Gillespie's lyrics worryingly slump into his default damage/disease/junkie/fight/alright territory that we've heard many, many times before.
Thankfully the band play their joker for the album's final tracks, releasing another canny set of collaborators to steer them away from the choppy waters of clich.
CSS's Lovefoxxx pops up on a pulsating I Love To Hurt (You Love To Be Hurt), while the beautiful space-country cover of Fleetwood Mac's Over & Over a duet with Linda Thompson would not have sounded out of place on the band's 1992 landmark Dixie-Narco EP.
Finally, Josh Homme thrashes his lead guitar about on the MC5-styled album closer Viva which, since founder member Throb's departure a couple of years back, is the only track on the album where guitars remain noticeably at the forefront.
So, it's business as usual for the Scream Team: a good selection of songs made better by a strong cast of collaborators, with Paul Epworth and his pulsating wooshy buttons deserving special commendation for giving the set a real cohesion.
You'll blush at the at-times-rotten lyrics, but at the end of the day Primal Scream remain a pretty special band. Beautiful Future? Maybe not, but with each of their nine albums sounding completely different to any of their others, the band have certainly created a fascinating legacy.

April 9, 2008 The Dirt On The New Album
The new album has been recorded. It has apparently been produced by Swedish artists Peter, Bjorn and John and Lykke Li. According to a recent interview with
Peter, Bjorn and John, the album is pop and Kraut sounding. Some other reports that the album with have a more electronic as well as a
country sound. Here are some bits of articles that have been transcribed by some Swedish fans:
... the international success that the single "young
folks" became for the Swedish band "peter bjorn and john" have open many
doors for Bjorn Yttling as a producer. Bjorn Yttling plays the
bassguitar in "Peter Bjorn and John".
Bjorn Yttling have produced a lot a swedish acts. Lykke Li, Sahara
Hotnights and Shout out louds for example.
Primal Scream have listen to "Peter Bjorn and John" and "Lykke Li" and
like what they heard. They called up Bjorn and then he went to London
for rehearsing the new songs with the screams. The new scream album was
recorded in Stockholm, Sweden, in the Atlantis studio. Where it was
recorded in four days says Bjorn.
Bjorn says that it easy to work withe the screams, because they are used
to put the music in the hands of a producer.
Here is another:
How did the teamwork work out? It worked very well. They know how to
make a record and has no problems with handing over the responsibility
to a producer. The only problem was understanding their extreme scottish
dialect.
How does Primal Scream sound with you as a producer? It's much more
pop and kraut than earlier, so it fits well with me. It sounds a bit
like Alan Vega and Suicide. I rehersed with them in London at first and
then we recorded everything in four days at "Atlantisstudion" in
Stockholm.
[Ed: it seems like an unlikely choice of producers but thanks God it isn't Mark Ronson, who was rumoured to have produced it, didn't produce it]

March 25, 2008 New(?) Scream song emerges
A new Scream song has appeared in one of the strangest places (well maybe not, read further down), during a recent fashion show.
It's part of Alexander McQueen Spring Summer 08 collection. The song is titled, 'Son of a Preacher Man'. It's a Dusty Springfield cover and appears about 4:40 minutes into the clip and finishes on the second clip. The clips were uploaded
on March 10th of this year, so one would assume this is a newly recorded song. You are probably wondering why this song may have appeared here first?
Well Bobby's wife, Katy England works in the fashion industry. [You can download the song from the forum]

March 16, 2008 More album details emerge
Primal Scream have disclosed that a number of collaborators are set to
feature on their as yet untitled ninth studio album, the follow up to
2006's 'Riot City Blues'.
The LP, due out later this year, will feature a number of different
collaborators and producers, including James Ford, who produced Arctic
Monkeys and Klaxons' recent albums.
Speaking to BBC News, Bobby Gillespie said: "We did some tracks with
Youth, Paul Epworth - we did some stuff with him. James Ford is going to
do a mix for us as well, and we've been producing stuff ourselves."
It is also rumoured that the band are looking at doing sessions with
Mark Ronson, though these have not yet been confirmed.

January 4&15, 2008 New Scream album due this year.
The February issue of Uncut magazine reports about the forthcoming Scream album due in April or May: Bobby talks of what they've been doing, what it'll sound like and who's on it.
According to the man himself it's to be a pop album (but does say Burning Wheel is pop to him), whereas RCB was bluesy, with structured verses and big choruses and an 'up' feel.
Lovefoxx from CSS sings on one song and Little Barrie
does slide on another. All the demos are done and they're finding the right producer to do it right. Here is the full article.
January 11, 2008 Robert 'Throb' Young to reconnect with The Scream?
Rumor has it that Robert 'Throb' Young will rejoin The Scream for a forthcoming world tour. This would no doubt mean that he will appear on the forthcomin album due later this year.
More about the album
Here is what Digital Spy has reported:
CSS singer Lovefoxxx and Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie are to record a duet.
The track, which Gillespie describes as "...electronic psychedelia and almost John Lennon-y", will be placed on Primal Scream's new album, due out later this year. The pair decided to collaborate after they played the same event in Lovefoxxx's hometown of Sao Paolo.
Gillespie told NME: "(CSS) were playing at the same festival as us. We ended up hanging out with them, having a great night - us and them. We stayed up all night playing music and chatting."
He added: "I went to see them at the Astoria (in London) and I think I asked her (to duet) then. Then I wrote her an email and sent her the song and she was really into it."
The singer described the upcoming track, saying: "It's about a destructive relationship, I guess. It's not an 'up' kind of song, it's a very, very dark-sounding track, really intense."
Here is what Bobby told NME:
"I went to see them at the Astoria (in London) and I think I asked her then. Then I wrote her an email and sent her the song and she was really into it," he explained.
The song has been described as a mesh of electronica with a psychedelic vibe, which Gillespie claims "sounds fucking great".
Lovefoxxx recorded the track in the autumn of 2007 and it will feature on Primal Scream's next record, due out later this year.
