New Scream Tunes
PRIMAL SCREAM are ready to record three new tracks, and plan to release a new album, GARY 'MANI' MOUNFIELD has exclusively revealed to NME.

Mani said that the mood within the Scream camp is buoyant, despite having parted company with their long-time manager Alex Nightingale in August and then taking their accountant to court for allegedly stealing £55,000 from the band kitty.

Speaking in this week's NME, on sale in London today (October 31) and the rest of the UK tomorrow, Mani said: "We've got about three (songs) we can throw down. We just wanna get it done and get it out tail end of next year, we've had a really good year of it, everything's moving in the right direction. We just don't wanna stop man."

Describing the new material, Mani said: "It's just gonna be madder than 'Exterminator'. We're probably gonna carry on in the similar vein, but then again, no-one can really predict what's gonna happen... it might end up being a twisted, dub country and western LP. Y'know how fucking bizarre our lot are."

Meanwhile, Mani has been asked to join MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer's new supergroup Mad For The Racket, alongside The Police's Stewart Copeland and Blondie's Clem Burke. He replaces original Guns N' Roses bass player Duff 'Rose' McKagan who formed Mad For The Racket with Kramer earlier this year. They play Nottingham Rock City (November 13) and London 100 Club (14).

Mani says: "He asked me to do these two gigs. It's a burden on me 'cos I'm a busy boy and I've got to learn a set of like 14 or 15 songs but... I'm prepared to bust my arse to learn them 'cos I get to play with bloody Wayne Kramer. You know our feelings about the MC5, so it's amazing."

After his stint with Mad For The Racket, Mani will once again join the ranks of the Scream for their December tour, which calls at Brighton Centre (December 17 ), Bristol Colston Hall (19), Birmingham Academy (20), Manchester Apollo (22) and Dublin Point (23). As previously reported on NME.COM, the band wind up the year at the Resolution 2000 New Year's Eve event at London's Alexandra Palace, supported by Asian Dub Foundation and Mani's old Stone Roses compadre, Ian Brown. It?ll be the first time that they have shared a stage since the Roses split in 1996 - and he didn't rule out a future reunion: "I wouldn't bet against it, but I wouldn't put my shirt on it either. I don't know really, I'm tempted to cut a track with him again... I don't hold any grudges or animosity against anybody. What's done is done. It just depends whether he's got anything funky enough for me dunnit? Which I'm sure he has."

Primal Scream Sack Manager
Alan McGee told nme.com during the Leeds/Reading festival that Alex Nightingale has been sacked as long-time manager of Primal Scream. Alan McGee is now caretaker manager. Apparently it stems from financial irregularities with their accountant and they going to court over it. Although nme.com later reported he wasn't involved. Read the full details at NME.com

'Kill All Hippies' in Japan
"Kill all Hippies" will be released on July 26th in Japan. This is for commemorate their coming Japan (maybe for Fuji Rock Festival) edition. And screensaver will be enclosed as an addition.
Tracks are:
1 Kill All Hippies (Brendan Lynch Edit)
2 Kill All Hippies?Two Lone Swordsmen#2)
3 When the kingdom comes
4 Exterminator (Massive Attack Remix)
5 Exterminater (Jagz Kooner Remix)
6 Revenge Of The Hammond Connection
[Thanks Satoko and Chris P]

I'm assuming this is the single that was supposedly released last February in Japan to commemorate that leg of the world tour. I've seen several web stores that have claimed to have this single in stock for several months. So I'm not sure what those singles are really since I've never tried ordering them.

July 13, 2000

The Elusive Accelerator single
Apparently "Accelerator" is due out now on August 14th. This is Unofficial news and can't be confirmed.
[Thanks to Kamran from the Stukas mailing list]

I'm not sure what label it will be on since the scream don't have a record deal in the UK. They are apparently signed to Sony due tot he demise of Creation records, but no label within Sony has shown interest in actually signing them. On a semi-related note Teenage Fanclub are the first ex-Creation group to sign with Sony/Columbia according to Playlouder.com

Lastly, I'm not sure what happened with the House of Blues cybercast. They only showed it for a a few hours and not for 24 hours continuously as was advertised. Hopefully it will be archived there soon.

July 5, 2000

Accelerator cancels
It appears that he forthcoming "Accelerator" single has been canceled. It is no longer appearing on my sources release schedule. An unknown single is still apparently scheduled for release in Japan on July 17th. I assume this will be "Accelerator". Christine reported on alt.music.primal-scream that she had seen promo CDs for "Accelerator" and "Keep your dreams" which only adds more mystery surrounding this release.

Don't forget to check out Primal Scream Live at the House of Blues on Sunday, July 9 - 6:00 pm PST / 9:00 pm EST / 2:00 am UK Time. See below for more details

Here's more info about "Sick City" as reported by NME a year ago.
PRIMAL SCREAM have been working with David Holmes on their forthcoming as-yet-untitled album.

The band were inspired to work with Holmes after hearing the music he had written for a '1.5million Absolut Vodka advert. Taking the track as the model, they rerecorded it as 'Sick City' with added vocals. Holmes also collaborates on another new Scream track called 'Gun Shy'. Described by Holmes as "jazz punk", it features a brass section.
[Ed. I wonder if we'll ever get to hear this 'Gun Shy" track?!]

One More Time
(Death in Vegas' Richard) Fearless also spoke of his desire to release the previously unheard single 'One More Time' - recorded in September 1999 with Bobby Gillespie on vocals.

"Everything we've ever done is soulful, but this is definitely northern soul. It's the most euphoric thing we've ever done. We want to release it before we do another album, just to throw a lot of people," he said.

New Single
"Keep your Dreams" will be be released on June 19th! I suspect "I'm Five Years ahead of of my Time" will be one of the B-sides. If you you recall Bobby said a few months ago that it would appear on a single. I also suspect this will be the last ever single to be released on Creation Records.

According to an Astralwerks newsletter. "Exterminator" will be released on May 2 in the US. The track had appeared on UK promo copies of the album but was removed from the final release. The track is also on the Canadian CD and Japan CD (As a bonus track). EmmPppp3's of it have been circulating around. Hear a sound sample of it at Astralwerks

More David Holmes album news
The new David Holmes' album, "Bow Down To The Exit Sign" is due out May 15th and apparently Bobby Gillespie, Andrew Innes and Kevin Shields will appear on 2 tracks, 'Sick City' and 'Penetration' as you may have read here earlier. Apparently "Sick City" is the advertising track they worked on together last year, but it now includes vocals.
Bobby Gillespie's on two tracks with Innes and Kevin Shields - 'Sick City' is like the Stooges with psychedelic dub, and 'Penetration' is pure Can with the most amazing bassline.

[Supposedly Primal Scream and David Holmes did a track together called 'Gun Shy" I'm not sure if this will ever see the light of day]

Here's a mail from a fan named Mister Mute about the show:
"The Scream only played for about 45 minutes at most; they were, unsurprisingly, too fucked to make it on stage until 20 minutes into their allotted time. So, people with cable telly and fancy computers might be able to make CD-Rs...but it'll definitely fit on a tape!"

Kevin Shield joins the Scream plus more news
Kevin Shield is joining Primal Scream on their World Tour and possibly permanately. They will sign with Sony Records after Creation closes down. And lastly, expect a greatest hits album by the end of the year. Read all about it at NME.

US released ate?
I believe "Exterminator" is being released on Februay 8th on Epic Records in the US, though I haven't received any offical news about it. They will sign with Sony Records after Creation closes down. Epic is part of Sony. However, Mike who works in a US record store told me he has not seen this on any release sheet and his store has not received any promos of it either.

Check this out this review of Exterminator at NME.

More UK Tour dates
Primal Scream have also added some new tour dates for their UK tour.

Live 'Soul Auctioneer'
According to Select Magazine, there is a liveversion of "Soul Auctioneer" with Bobby on lead vocals , appears on the B-side of the new Death in Vegas single (I believe it's on CD Part 1) which is due out on January 31. The single is called "Aisha," and features Iggy Pop on vocals. Bob did lead vocals "Soul Auctioneer" on their latest album if you may recall.

Also Primal Scream appear in the February 2000 issue of Select Magazine. For those of you in the States check out Border's or Barnes & Noble. I will add it to the site eventually.

Check out this review of the Secret Zodiac Oxford Primal Scream warm up gigs.

There was a internet rumour that Primal Scream were breaking up after their current tour. This rumour is untrue. Read about it at NME

Next single from Exterminator?
It doesn't appear to be unlikely that Primal Scream will release another single from "Exterminator" in the midst of Alan McGee leaving Creation the label to start his new one. Evidentally, labelmate, Bernard Butler, has been informed by Creation that they won't release anymore singles off his most recent album, this is why I suspect the same holds true for Primal Scream. Although as reported here earlier, "Kill All hippies" is being released in Japan apparently.

January 12, 2000

Secret Gig and Bob as interior designer
It's been revealed that PRIMAL SCREAM are now playing two low-key warm-up dates before their trip to Australia for The Big Day Out travelling festival.

The band play Gloucester Guidhall on January 15 and Oxford Zodiac on January 16, as already announced here on nme.com. Both gigs have already sold out.

The Primals then make the journey Down Under for The Big Day Out festival (January 23 - February 6) where they'll play alongside CHEMICAL BROTHERS, JOE STRUMMER & THE MESCALEROES, NINE INCH NAILS and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.

It's thought another warm-up is being planned, but no details have been confirmed yet.

It's thought another warm-up is being planned, but no details have been confirmed yet.

Meanwhile, PRIMALS frontman BOBBY GILLESPIE is designing a room for Brighton's new Hotel Pelirocco, due to open in late spring. Bobby G and ASIAN DUB FOUNDATION are both taking part in the design of the hotel which will feature 18 themed rooms, covering the last 30 years of British youth culture.

ADF's PANDIT G told nme.com: "Apparently we're going to be decorating this hotel. Bobby G is going to be plastering it and I'm going to be papering it. I'm handling the feng shui side of things."

"We don't know that much about it at the moment but it's going to be a bit like 'Changing Rooms' (UK interior design and DIY television programme) I think."

After The Big Day Out, The Scream return to the UK for a full tour which calls at Nottingham Rock City (March 8), Sheffield Octagon (9), Norwich UEA (10) and Newcastle University (12), Edinburgh Corn Exchange (March 13), Manchester Ritz (14) and London Hammersmith Palais (15).

KIll all Hippies
'Kill all hippies' will be released as a single in Japan on February 9th apparently. This is apparently a Japanese Tour EP, though it's getting a proper full release. I suspect it will be released in the UK as well, though I haven't heard anything.

War Pigs released
"Swastika Eyes" is being released in Germany and the rest of Europe re-titled "War Pigs" for obvious reasons, the swastika imagery. If you recall Primal Scream orignally called the track Swatika Eyes (War Pigs). It's release on January 10th. Here's more details from a fan:
"Swastika Eyes is named war pigs only in countries whose Sony Music people told Sony Music in the UK that the public would not handle the name containing the word swastika. Therefore, here it is called Swastika Eyes whereas in Germany where the people are kinda more sensitive to this imagery it had to be named war pigs"

Alan McGee's new Poptones label
I suspect Primal Scream will be on this label. It appears that it is related to his clickmusic.com investment venture. I'm sure we'll here more details soon.

Alan McGee's new label is to be called Poptones after a track on PiL's 1979 album, Metal Box.

The former Creation boss who announced he was quitting the label he has run for 17 years, said the label will be "a merger of old-school indie ethics and the internet" and will not be courting success.

"We're creating a new underground, I won’t be playing the game," he says. "But the idea’s so strong, I can’t fail."

McGee, talking to Uncut magazine, enlarged on his vision for a multi-media based venture label, a film company, an art gallery and a website-linked radio station. The new venture will centre around the internet said McGee: "There’s some fucking great ideas - downloads, webcasts and a load of things that haven’t been done before. I’ve got a lot of tricks up my sleeve."

Several Creation artists, including Trashmonk will move to the new label. Although McGee doubted if Kevin Rowland would make the move because "Kevin likes the wider marketing thing. Poptones is anti-marketing."
