Well I'm sure by now all of you know about the "Swastika Eyes" cover by Autokratz but you might not of heard these 3 (yes 3!) different covers of that song:

Don't know where the fook this is from but it's a much better version than the one on that Lyon bootleg from 1990 (in my opinion).

Enjoy!

Yeah that's a good site. Don't know if you are a fan but THE CRAMPS stuff on there is wicked :afro:

Totally agree with you on that. Seeing as this is the Primal Scream forum I thought it might be interesting to point out that Bobby does not agree with us. I've read Bobby say many a time his favourite Stooges album is "Raw Power".

Don't Fight It, Feel It / Yabby You RIP
« on: March 24, 2010, 06:23:10 PM »
This actually happened in January but I've only just found out (& I don't think anyone else has mentioned it on here)

Reggae Singer Yabby You Dead at 63

Jamaican music pioneer Yabby You, who was also known to reggae fans throughout the world as the "Jesus Dread," died of a stroke last month, according to the Guardian. Unique for his embrace of Christianity over the Rastafarian beliefs often associated with the genre and his dedication to roots reggae, the performer and producer was 63.

For those of you that don't know the great man or his music perhaps this is a good starting point for you. It's his first album:

One of the first bands I ever loved. Even before I loved Primal Scream. "The Killing Moon" is one of the best singles ever made (& "Nothing last forever" one of the best comeback singles ever made). Mac is a star obviously blessed with a wonderful voice & Will Seargeant is one damned hot guitar player BUT............ I still miss Pete De Freitas. One hell of a drummer!!!!!!!!!!! I saw them "back in the day" at Gloucester Leisure Centre & the Birmingham NEC.

I have a wonderful radio bootleg of the band playing live doing covers of Television's "Friction", The Velvets' "Run Run Run" & Wilson Pickets "The Midnight Hour" (amongst others). It is top stuff & now I'm gonna upload it here for you.

Give me awhile.........

Preceding the album, the band are set to release a new single 'Die By The Drop', with a release date expected to be announced soon.

Give Out But Don't Give Up / Re: Alex Chilton RIP
« on: March 18, 2010, 07:02:24 PM »
Still in shock at hearing the sad news of Alex Chilton passing away. It's difficult to think of Big Star without thinking of Primal Scream & Bobby Gillespie. Bobby & The Scream have constantly given praise to Big Star hopefully gaining them a whole new audience in the process.

I can't honestly say I bought "Sister lovers" after reading Bobby's words about it but it's possible. Around that time (late 80's) I bought some of the best records ever, some of my favourite records ever - all those classics from the 60's & 70's (Pet Sounds, Tonight's the night, There's a riot goin' on, forever changes etc.   etc...).

Usually I found out about records through reading interviews with my hero's (like Bob or Julian Cope for example). They would be interviewed by the NME and talk about great records like Can or The Stooges. Then people like me would pop off to the local record store & buy them.

This is exactly the same as how Bob says he got into certain music. He claimed to have got into Can because of John Lydon always mentioning them.

ANYWAY if you are reading this Primal Scream I think a big THANK YOU is in order for the music you have recommended to us over the years. Without you our record collections might not be quite so good.

I was lucky enough to see Big Star in 94 (or whatever) headlining the small tent at the Reading Festival. Ok Chris Bell wasn't there & half the band were made up from the band The Posies BUT I was impressed. I chose to see them instead of New Order headlining at the big stage.

Alex was a star. I was impressed. I saw Big Star!!!! I went back to my tent happy.

So THANK YOU AGAIN PRIMAL SCREAM for spreading the word about amazing music!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm off to play "Sister lovers" followed by "Like flies on Sherbert"

RIP Alex
